What is included?

  • Comprehensive history-taking (through our tailor-made online portal) in advance of the consultation
  • Consultation with/ referral from your Veterinary Surgeon for a joined up approach, where needed  
  • Detailed analysis of the history provided by you and/ or your vet to prepare for the consultation
  • Consultation (1.5 hours) to include discussion about the causes and patterns of the behaviour and an explanation of the steps you will need to follow in order to change the behaviour 
  • Written summary of the issues and steps to be taken to tackle the problem (within 72 hours) - includes links to videos, websites and other useful resources relevant for you
  • Copy of written report sent to your Veterinary Surgeon, where needed
  • Follow-up practical in-person session (45 minutes) - we will provide personal, practical guidance for your first steps in changing the behaviour
  • Further follow-up in-person session (45 mins) - we will move you on with your behaviour modification plan, supporting you towards your end goal ​

This programme usually involves around 5 hours of work on my part so, at a cost of only £330 (compared to our hourly rate of £110/hr), it represents excellent value. 

​Why we are doing our Initial Consultations Virtually...

The Coronavirus pandemic of 2020 has changed so much of our working life and some things, we think, are for the better! We honestly feel that having the initial consultation on Zoom means that:
  • You get a more efficient appointment; in fact, we’ve made it 30 minutes shorter to accommodate for this and passed the savings onto you!
  • You can record the consultation so you can watch it back later or let an absent family member hear exactly what was said. This removes any ambiguity.
  • Your dog acts naturally, which means we can get a better idea of what they are like when under normal conditions. You would not believe the number of times we’ve heard “oh, he never normally does that” or “she’s so good with you”!
  • We can help you to prepare better for when we do then meet your dog at an in-person follow-up (if applicable), this is especially important for dogs who are nervous of new people or situations.
  • Your follow-up sessions are in person, so you really do get the best of both worlds!​

We've struggled with our French Bulldog resource guarding us for months, unsure how best to deal with it. We have used other behaviourists who have fallen short. Today, I met someone whilst out with my dog, who said ‘Gosh, I’ve never met such a friendly terrier before’, which, before working with Gretta, would never, ever have happened!  When we first rescued Flossie, she reacted extremely badly to a whole variety of triggers, including other dogs, in a hostile, fearful, frustrated manner which meant walking her was very stressful for both us and the dog!  Gretta’s help transformed walking into an on-going positive learning experience and the progress she has made has been almost unbelievable in the year we’ve had her.  Gretta’s unwavering belief in her and connection with her has enabled her (and us!) to live a normal life and we are eternally grateful.

​Gretta at A Different Dog has been amazing!  Our dog, Ralphie, really struggled with his behaviour around other dogs and people and would be growling and lunging at them. Gretta gave us some advice for how we could improve Ralphie’s behaviour and we immediately saw changes.  When we went on our second session Ralphie was still very nervous but after some one-on-one training we saw some changes we never thought we would see.  By the third session he was interacting nicely with dogs on the walk and is now even starting to play with them - he no longer sees dogs as a threat.  We never thought we would see these changes with Ralphie, especially after just 3 sessions. We would highly recommend the behaviour package.  We will continue to keep in touch and continue other training sessions with Gretta as the results have been amazing.  Ralphie is finally enjoying walks and his day-to-day stress levels have gone down.  We finally have a dog that is no longer always nervous.
